The 4-3 Kentucky Wildcats of coach Joker Phillips made their first ever Belt defense as they welcomed the 3-4 Georgia Bulldogs of coach Mark Richt.  Bulldogs' RB Washaun Ealey set a school record with 5 rushing touchdowns as Georgia took advantage of 4 Wildcats' turnovers on their way to a 44-31 win over Kentucky to claim the lineal championship for the first time since 1989.  The Wildcats outgained the Bulldogs on offense 423-290 but Georgia turned the 4 Kentucky turnovers into 17 points spelling the difference in the game.  Wildcats' QB Mike Hartline gave up the first turnover as he fumbled while being sacked on the third play from scrimmage & Bulldogs' LB Cornelius Washington recovered at the Kentucky 23-yard line.  Ealey finished the 4-play drive with a 3-yard touchdown run for a 7-0 lead.  The Wildcats responded with a 16-play drive but had to settle for a 41-yard field goal from PK Craig McIntosh.  On the ensuing kick-off, Georgia CB Brandon Boykin took the ball at the goal-line & ran 100 yards for a 14-3 Bulldogs' lead with 4:52 left in the 1st quarter.  Late in the quarter, Kentucky tried to convert a 4th & 1 from their own 38-yard line but Hartline was stopped short of the marker.  It took 7 plays this time before Ealey pushed the Georgia lead to 21-3 early in the 2nd quarter.  After being pinned deep in their own territory following a punt, Wildcats' RB Donald Russell fumbled & Bulldogs' LB Justin Houston recovered at the Kentucky 5-yard line.  Ealey's third touchdown run covered 2 yards while giving Georgia a 28-3 advantage.  The Wildcats finally held the ball long enough to drive 71 yards in 10 plays with Hartline throwing a 35-yard touchdown pass to WR La'Rod King for the final points of the 1st half.  The Bulldogs opened the 2nd half with a 7-play, 70-yard drive with Ealey's fourth touchdown coming on a 2-yard run for a 34-10 advantage as Georgia PK Blair Walsh missed the conversion attempt.  Kentucky finished the quarter with a 10-play, 66-yard drive capped by a 22-yard touchdown pass from Hartline to King but the Wildcats still trailed 34-17 entering the final quarter.  Kentucky tried an on-side kick but the attempt went out-of-bounds & gave the Bulldogs another short field to work with.  The 4-play, 46-yard drive was highlighted by a 25-yard pass from Georgia QB Aaron Murray to WR A.J. Green before Ealey scored his final touchdown with a 1-yard run for a 41-17 Bulldogs lead with 13:47 to play.  The Wildcats took just 2:55 to score on a 79-yard drive as they tried to rally with a 39-yard touchdown pass from Hartline to WR Chris Matthews & with the successful 2-point conversion pass from All-American WR Randall Cobb to WR Matt Roark, Kentucky trailed 41-25.  Walsh atoned for his missed extra point attempt with a 30-yard field goal giving Georgia a 44-25 lead with 2:40 to play but the Wildcats were not done yet.  Hartline threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to RB Raymond Sanders with 1:23 to play but Kentucky was unable to score after they recovered the on-side kick.  Ealey finished with 157 yards rushing with his 5 touchdowns while Murray threw for 113 yards in the win.  Hartline threw for 353 yards with 4 touchdowns as well as an interception but Kentucky was unable to overcome the fumbles which gave the Bulldogs a short field on 3 different occassions.  The Wildcats finished the season 6-7 while Georgia finished 6-7.  Kentucky has not for The Belt again.
