The 3rd ranked, 10-1 Oklahoma Sooners of coach Bob Stoops traveled to Stillwater to meet the 11th ranked, 9-2 Oklahoma State Cowboys of coach Mike Gundy. The Cowboys had held The Belt earlier in the season before dropping it to Texas Tech but they hoped the could reclaim the title with an upset of the Sooners. Oklahoma's Heisman Trophy winning, All-American QB Sam Bradford threw 4 touchdown passes as the Sooners rolled to a 61-41 win in the Bedlam rivalry. Oklahoma took advantage of a turnover early in the game when CB Dominique Franks intercepted Oklahoma State's QB Zac Robinson's second pass attempt of the game. Franks returned the pick 24 yards to the Cowboys' 22-yard line before Sooners' All-Big XII RB DeMarco Murray broke a 20-yard run for the first score of the game. Robinson drove Oklahoma State to the Oklahoma 11-yard line before the Cowboys settled for a 28-yard field goal from PK Dan Bailey leaving Oklahoma State trailing 7-3. Early in the 2nd quarter, the Cowboys took their only lead of the game at 10-7 after they completed a 10-play, 82-yard touchdown drive with a 23-yard touchdown pass from Robinson to All-Big XII RB Kendall Hunter. The Sooners responded with a 14-play, 79-yard drive with RB Chris Brown carrying the final 2 yards for the touchdown & a 14-10 lead. Bailey's 44-yard field goal made the score Oklahoma 14 Oklahoma State 13 before Bradford drove the Sooners for another score just before intermission. Bradford completed 8 of 11 pass attempts on the 80-yard drive including a 3-yard touchdown pass to All-Big XII TE Jermaine Gresham for the score & a 21-13 halftime lead. The Cowboys opened the 3rd quarter with an 8-play, 81-yard drive with the touchdown coming on a 6-yard pass from Robinson to All-American WR Dez Bryant. The extra-point attempt was a highlight all its own as Robinson fumbled trying carry for a 2-point conversion. The ball was picked-up by Oklahoma's DE Frank Alexander & returned for a defensive score leaving the Sooners in control with a 23-19 lead. Three plays later, Bradford connected with Gresham for a 73-yard touchdown giving Oklahoma a 30-19 advantage. The offensive fireworks continued as Robinson broke a 31-yard run for a touchdown keeping Oklahoma State close at 30-26. Bradford's 2-yard touchdown run pushed the Sooners' lead back to 11 points at 37-26 as the teams entered the final quarter. Robinson's 17-yard touchdown pass to Bryant kept the game exciting as the Cowboys closed to within a field goal at 37-34 after the successful 2-point conversion pass from Robinson to Bryant. Murray returned the kick-off 68 yards to dampen Oklahoma State's momentum & 6 plays later, Bradford threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to TE Brody Eldridge to seemingly put Oklahoma back in total control at 44-34. Cowboys' CB Parrish Cox returned the ensuing kick-off 90 yards for a touchdown making the score Oklahoma 44 Oklahoma State 41 but that was the last time the Cowboys would cross the goal-line. Bradford threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to WR Juaquin Iglesias, PK Jimmy Stevens kicked a 27-yard field goal, & Brown broke a 28-yard touchdown run to complete the scoring. Bradford finished with 370 yards passing with his 4 touchdowns while Gresham added 158 yards receiving to his 2 touchdown catches. Robinson threw for 254 yards with 3 touchdowns & an interception in the loss. Oklahoma finished the season 12-2, ranked 5th nationally while the Cowboys finished 9-4, ranked 16th nationally. Oklahoma State has not played for The Belt again.
