The 6th ranked Florida Gators of coach Urban Meyer made their first defense of The Belt since 1987.  The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers of coach David Elson were not only appearing in their first Belt game but it was their first game as a Division 1-A school.  Florida's Heisman Trophy winning, All-American QB Tim Tebow threw for 300 yards with 3 touchdowns as well as rushing for a touchdown as the Gators routed the Hilltoppers 49-3.  The game was stopped midway through the final quarter as they officials decided that Western Kentucky had been beaten down enough (the game was actually called with 8:23 to play as both teams agreed that lightning in the area was threatening).  The game started with high hopes for the Hilltoppers as they drove 62 yards to the Florida 10-yard line but the drive ended when they were unable to convert the 4th & 1 play.  More harmful for Western Kentucky was the loss of QB David Wolke who suffered a concussion on the opening drive.  The Gators' offense had no problems, taking 6 plays to travel 90 yards highlighted by a 48-yard pass from Tebow to WR Andre Caldwell.  Tebow scored the touchdown on a 1-yard quarterback sneak giving Florida a 7-0 lead.  Tebow's first touchdown pass of the game was a 59-yard throw to WR Riley Cooper putting the Gators ahead 14-0.  His second came early in the 2nd quarter when he found WR Percy Harvin on a 19-yard strike for a 21-0 advantage.  Florida's RB Kestahn Moore finished a 9-play, 62-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown run for a 28-0 Gator lead.  Western Kentucky's only points came on the final play of the half when PK Chris James connected on a 26-yard field goal attempt.  In the 3rd quarter, Tebow found Cooper on a 42-yard touchdown pass for a 35-3 lead enter the final period.  On the first play of the 4th quarter, Moore scored his second touchdown with a 1-yard run.  After Florida back-up QB Cameron Newton scored on a 4-yard run the teams agreed to stop play & after waiting just of an hour the game was terminated.  Tebow complete 13 of his 17 attempts, Cooper had 4 catches for 122 yards with his 2 touchdowns, Caldwell added 3 catches for 103 yards, & the Gators' defense held the Hilltoppers to 48 yards rushing.  For Western Kentucky, Wolfe complete 3 of his 4 passes on the opening drive for 43 yards while back-up QB K.J. Black threw for 102 yards in relief of the injured starter.  The Hilltoppers finished the season 7-5 while Florida finished the season 9-4, 13th ranked nationally.  Western Kentucky has not played for The Belt again.
