The 1-1 Arkansas Razorbacks of coach Houston Nutt traveled to Los Angeles to meet the top-ranked, 1-0 Southern Cal Trojans of coach Pete Carroll. The Trojans scored four touchdowns in the 1st quarter & totaled 736 offensive yards for the game on their way to a 70-17 victory. Southern Cal's All-Pac 10 QB Matt Leinart threw for 381 yards with 4 touchdowns & All-American RB Reggie Bush rushed for 125 yards with 2 touchdowns in the victory. Bush opened the scoring with a 76-yard touchdown run the first time he touched the ball. The Razorbacks tied the game with a 12-yard touchdown pass from QB Robert Johnson to WR Marcus Monk. Bush’s second touch resulted in a 29-yard touchdown reception from Leinart. Leinart connected with All-American WR Dwayne Jarrett on a 24-yard touchdown pass & then scored on a 17-yard touchdown run as the Trojans took a 28-7 lead into the 2nd quarter. Arkansas' PK Chris Balseiro scored the only Razorback points of the 2nd quarter with a 31-yard field goal but the Trojans had no intention of slowing down their offense. Southern Cal's RB LenDale White scored on a 3-yard touchdown run & Jarrett caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from Leinart as the Trojans pushed their lead to 42-10 at the half. The 3rd quarter saw touchdowns from White on a 1-yard touchdown run & a 21-yard touchdown pass from Leinart to RB David Kirtman for a 56-10 Southern Cal lead. The back-ups took over in the 4th quarter for the Trojans but the scoring never stopped. Southern Cal's QB John David Booty hit WR Patrick Turner for a 21-yard touchdown pass & QB Michael McDonald hit TE Jimmy Miller for a 4-yard touchdown. The Razorbacks only other score came on a 5-yard touchdown pass from QB Alex Mortensen to Monk. WR Steve Smith added 4 catches for 129 yards for the Trojans & All-SEC RB Darren McFadden tallied 88 yards rushing for Arkansas. Southern Cal finished the season 0-1 which includes 12 wins vacated as a result of Bush being declared ineligible by the NCAA; Pac 10 Champions & ranked 2nd nationally while the Razorbacks finished 4-7. Arkansas would play for The Belt again in 2007.
