The 2nd ranked, 1-0 Florida State Seminoles of coach Bobby Bowden traveled to Atlanta to meet the 1-0 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets of coach George O’Leary.  While the Seminoles expected to roll to another easy ACC win, the Yellow Jackets had other plans.  In the 1st quarter, Florida State got a 21-yard field goal from PK Chance Gwaltney, a 63-yard touchdown pass from Heisman Trophy winning, All-ACC QB Chris Weinke to WR Javon Walker, & a safety when All-American DE Jamal Reynolds sacked Georgia Tech's QB George Godsey in the end zone giving the Seminoles a comfortable 12-0 lead.  The momentum shifted to Georgia Tech in the 2nd quarter when CB Marvious Hester intercepted a pass from Florida State's QB Marcus Outzen & returned it 50 yards for a score to get the Yellow Jackets on the board.  Florida State lead 12-7 at the intermission.  Georgia Tech took the lead with 3:17 left in the 3rd quarter when RB Joe Burns took a handoff 8 yards for a score; the Yellow Jackets completed the 2-point conversion giving Georgia Tech a 15-12 advantage over the Belt holders.  The Seminoles took back the lead early in the 4th quarter with a 30-yard pass from Weinke to WR Robert Morgan & a 19-15 lead.  Five minutes later, RB William McCray scored from 1-yard, giving Florida State a 26-15 edge.  With 4:50 to play, Tech’s Godsey hit WR Jon Muyres from 27 yards for a touchdown.  The failed conversion left the score 26-21.  The Yellow Jackets last drive ended at the Seminoles’ 40-yard line when Godsey tried to hit WR Kerry Watkins but Florida State's CB Stanford Samuels broke up the pass.  To many watching the game, it appeared Samuels had hit Watkins early but no pass interference penalty was called & Florida State ran out the clock for a closer than expected 26-21 victory.  Weinke finished with 443 yards passing with his 2 touchdowns & WR Anquan Boldin added 3 catches for 100 yards.  Godsey threw for 189 yards with a touchdown in the loss.  Florida State finished the season 11-2; ACC Champions, ranked 5th nationally while the Yellow Jackets finished 9-3 & ranked 17th nationally.  Georgia Tech would play for The Belt again in 2011.
