The top-ranked, 6-0 Florida State Seminoles of coach Bobby Bowden welcomed the 3-2 Wake Forest Demon Deacons of coach Jim Caldwell to Tallahassee for the Seminoles Homecoming.  Off their battle with Miami, the Seminoles were understandably passive early in their match-up with their ACC rival.  Florida State again played without All-American WR Peter Warrick who had been suspended due to a felony theft charge stemming from a shoplifting incident.  A slow 1st half was not enough to hold down the talented Seminoles as they retained the title with a 33-10 Homecoming victory over the Demon Deacons.  Wake Forest took an early lead on a 24-yard field goal from PK Matt Burdick on the Demon Deacons' opening drive.  Florida State’s All-American PK Sebastian Janikowski accounted for the Seminoles’ 1st half points with field goals from 31, 34, & 52 yards giving Florida State a closer than expected 9-3 halftime lead.  In the 2nd half, Seminoles' QB Chris Weinke & WR Atrews Bell connected twice for touchdowns in the 3rd quarter to give Florida State a comfortable 23-3 lead.  The first came 4:17 into the quarter on a 16-yard touchdown pass.  Their second scoring connection came in the final minute of the quarter on a 9-yard pass.  Early in the final quarter, Florida State's All-ACC LB Tommy Polley recovered a fumble that led to WR Anquan Boldin scoring on a 2-yard run.  Janikowski added his 4th field goal of the day, this one from 32 yards, late in the quarter.  Wake Forest’s only touchdown came on a 1-yard pass from QB C.J. Leak to WR Fabian Davis as time expired.  The Seminoles’ defense held the Demon Deacons to 42 yards rushing & 178 total yards.  Weinke finished with 354 yards passing to go with his 2 touchdowns throws.  For Wake Forest, starting QB Ben Sankey threw for 102 yards while Leak threw for 34 yards with a touchdown in mop-up duty.  Florida State finished the season 12-0; ACC Champions, & National Champions while the Demon Deacons finished 7-5.  Wake Forest has not played for The Belt again.
