The top-ranked, 4-0 Florida State Seminoles of coach Bobby Bowden met the 0-3 Duke Blue Devils & first-year coach Carl Franks in a game moved to Jacksonville after Florida State paid Duke $800,000 to better accommodate the Seminoles' fans.  Florida State showcased QB Chris Weinke & All-American WR Peter Warrick against the undermanned Blue Devils in a 51-23 blowout.  Weinke & Warrick connected for touchdowns 3 times in the 1st quarter as the Seminoles raced to a 21-0 lead.  The Weinke to Warrick connection scored from 3, 39, & 2 yards.  The 2nd quarter showed little difference as Florida State continued the offensive on-slaught.  All-American PK Sebastian Janikowski hit 3 field goals, WR Laveranues Coles caught a 35-yard touchdown from Warrick, & Weinke hit FB Dan Kendra from 7 yards as the Seminoles led 44-0 at the intermission.  The Seminoles’ offense scored on all 8 of their 1st half possessions.  Duke did little to help themselves in the 1st half with 9 penalties & 2 interceptions.  The Blue Devils did rally in the 2nd half getting 3 field goals from PK Sims Lenhardt, a 15-yard touchdown run from QB Kevin Thompson, & a 13-yard touchdown pass from Thompson to WR Richmond Flowers.  The Seminoles only points of the 2nd half came on an 84-yard touchdown pass from Weinke to WR Ron Dugans after Weinke returned to the game in the 4th quarter since both of the Seminoles' back-up quarterbacks proved ineffective.  Florida State’s defense held the Blue Devils to 53 yards rushing & 198 yards passing.  Weinke finished with 290 yards with 5 touchdowns but an interception while Warrick had 6 cataches for 67 yards with his 3 touchdown receptions & Dugans had 5 catches for 141 yards with his touchdown.  Duke's starting QB Bobby Campbell threw for 136 yards with 2 interceptions while Thompson threw for 62 yards with a touchdown as well as an interception while playing the 2nd half.  Florida State finished the season 12-0; ACC Champions, & National Champions while the Blue Devils finished 3-8.  Duke would play for The Belt again in 2010.
