The top-ranked, 8-0 Florida State Seminoles of coach Bobby Bowden traveled to Charlottesville to meet the 4-3 Virginia Cavaliers of coach George Welsh.  The Seminoles’ defense held the Cavaliers to 76 yards passing on their way to a 35-10 victory.  Florida State's QB Chris Weinke threw 3 interceptions in the 1st half & QB Marcus Outzen fumbled at the 1-yard line on another drive stopping the Seminoles’ offense from dominating the game.  The Cavaliers scored early in the 2nd quarter after CB Dwayne Stukes intercepted Weinke's pass attempt & returned it 9 yards to the Florida State 11-yard line.  Two plays later, Virginia's All-American RB Thomas Jones ran 16 yards for the score.  Florida State answered with a 14-play, 91-yard drive capped by a 4-yard touchdown pass from Weinke to WR Marvin “Snoop” Minnis to tie the game 7-7.  On the Cavaliers next drive, Jones broke loose for a 71-yard run down the left sideline to the Florida State 13-yard line.  Virginia was not able to get into the end zone & settled for a 26-yard field goal from PK Todd Braverman that gave the Cavaliers a 10-7 halftime edge.  Cavaliers' QB Dan Ellis was lost for the rest of the game after he received a concussion caused by two big hits he absorbed at the end of the drive.  QB David Rivers took over for Virginia but he was unable to move the offense against the Florida State defense led by All-American NG Corey Simon.  Late in the 3rd quarter, Outzen's fumble at the 1-yard line could changed the momentum of the game but the Seminoles' defense forced a short punt to the Virginia 30-yard line.  Weinke hit Minnis for a 20-yard score three plays later as the Seminoles took a 14-10 lead.  Two plays later, Simon intercepted Rivers giving Florida State the ball at the Virginia 27-yard line.  With 0:30 left in the quarter, Seminoles' RB Travis Minor scored on a 6-yard run for a 21-10 lead.  In the 4th quarter, All-American WR Peter Warrick took a short pass from Weinke, dodged two defended, & raced 50 yards for another score.  Outzen’s 1-yard touchdown run finished the Seminoles' scoring with just 1:14 left in the game.  Weinke passed for 297 yards to go with his 3 touchdowns while Jones starred for the Cavaliers with 164 yards rushing with a touchdown.  Florida State finished the season 12-0; ACC Champions, & National Champions while the Cavaliers finished 7-5.  Virginia would play for The Belt again in 2011.
