The top-ranked, 6-0 Nebraska Cornhuskers of coach Tom Osborne traveled to Lawrence to meet the 4-3 Kansas Jayhawks of first-year coach Terry Allen.  The Cornhuskers running game, led by QB Scott Frost rushing for 121 yards with 2 touchdowns, accounted for 382 yards & Nebraska’s Blackshirts defense held the Jayhawks to 48 total yards with 4 first downs posting their 2nd consecutive shutout 35-0 to retain The Belt.  The Cornhuskers drove 71 yards on their opening possession with RB Joel Makovicka finishing the drive with a 5-yard touchdown run.  Everything went right for the Cornhuskers typified by a play on Nebraska's second drive of the game.  Near midfield, the Cornhuskers faced a down 4th & 5 to go as they prepared to punt to the Jayhawks.  When Kansas blocked the punt, Makovicka picked-up the ball & carried 38 yards to the Kansas 32-yard line for a new set of downs.  Frost scored on the next play but the tally was nullified by a holding penalty & the teams traded punts.  Frost scored on the opening play of the 2nd quarter with a 27-yard touchdown run to cap a 6-play, 56-yard drive.  A 6-play, 64-yard drive was highlighted by a 31-yard run from All-Big XII RB Ahman Green with Makovicka carrying the final 18 yards for the touchdown giving the Cornhuskers a 21-0 halftime lead.  As a rain storm moved through the area in the 3rd quarter, neither team was able to score but in the 4th quarter the Cornhuskers got a 14-yard touchdown run from Frost & a 2-yard touchdown run from Green to finish the scoring.  Green finished with 123 yard rushing with his touchdown.  Kansas' QB Zac Wegner threw for just 27 yards completing only 6 of 17 pass attempts & P Dean Royal was forced to kick 12 times for the Jayhawks.  Nebraska finished the season 13-0; Big XII Champions, ranked 2nd nationally while the Jayhawks finished 5-6.  Kansas has not played for The Belt again.
