The 1-8 Iowa State Cyclones of coach Dan McCarney traveled to Lincoln to meet the 2nd ranked, 9-0 Nebraska Cornhuskers of coach Tom Osborne.  The Cornhuskers took a 35-7 first quarter lead behind 3 rushing touchdowns from All-Big XII RB Ahman Green & the Cornhuskers finished with 473 yards rushing in a game that was never as close as the 77-14 scoreboard showed.  Green scored on runs of 18, 49, & 4 yards while WR Bobby Newcombe returned a punt 53 yards for another touchdown before the Cyclones got on the board.  Iowa State got a 35-yard touchdown pass from QB Todd Bandhauer to All-Big XII WR Tyrone Watley before Newcombe scored on a 16-yard run giving Nebraska a 35-7 lead.  The 2nd quarter was more of the same as RB Joel Makovicka scored on a 9-yard run & QB Scott Frost scored on a 1-yard run to push the lead to 49-7.  Frost connected with TE Sheldon Jackson on a 5-yard touchdown pass & then scored on a 2-yard run as the Cornhuskers took a 63-7 halftime lead.  The 2nd half was more scrimmage than game for the Cornhuskers.  Nebraska's back-up QB Frankie London scored on a 4-yard run & RB Josh Cobb scored on a 1-yard run to finish the scoring for the Cornhuskers.  Iowa State’s only 2nd half score came on a 9-yard run by RB Darren Davis with 9:36 left in the game.  For the Cornhuskers, Green finished with 209 yards on just 15 carries & Frost added 88 yards rushing to his 2 touchdowns as well as 111 yards passing with a touchdown completing 8 of 9 pass attempts.  Bandhauer threw for 153 yards with a touchdown but an interception in the loss.  Nebraska finished the season 13-0; Big XII Champions, ranked 2nd nationally while the Cyclones finished 1-10.  Iowa State has not played for The Belt again.
