2nd ranked with a record of 8-0-1, the UCLA Bruins of coach Terry Donahue looked for a final tune-up before their battle with cross-town rival Southern Cal.  The Oregon State Beavers of coach Craig Fertig appeared undermanned with a 1-8 record.  UCLA's RB James Owens, filling in for the injured RB Wendell Tyler, rushed for 2 touchdowns & Bruins’ the defense forced 9 turnovers as the Bruins rolled to a 45-14 victory over the Beavers.  Tyler did play early breaking a 68-yard touchdown run which gave UCLA a 7-0 lead just 1:12 into the game but two series later, he fumbled before removing himself from the game clutching his left shoulder.  The Beavers took advantage of the turnover over when QB Dave White threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to WR Lee Overton which tied the game at 7-7.  Early in the 2nd quarter, UCLA's LB Frankie Stephens intercepted White at the Oregon State 26-yard line.  Owens scored on the next play giving the Bruins a 14-7 lead.  UCLA's All-American LB Jerry Robinson recovered a fumble by Overton giving the Bruins the ball at the Oregon State 39-yard line &, six plays later, Owens was in the end zone again after a 16-yard run which put UCLA ahead 21-7.  Another White interception, this one by UCLA's S Tom Murphy, gave the Bruins the ball at the Oregon State 35-yard line.  UCLA's QB Jeff Dankworth scrambled for 9 yards before throwing a 26-yard touchdown pass to WR Wally Henry pushing the Bruins lead to 28-7.  Oregon State followed with a 12-play, 80-yard drive with White throwing a 7-yard touchdown pass to TE Tom Chamberlain but the Beavers still trailed 28-14 at the half.  The only points of the 3rd quarter came after Robinson recovered a fumble from White before All-Pac 8 PK Frank Corral kicked a 23-yard field goal.  In the 4th quarter, UCLA added scores on a 6-yard touchdown run from Dankworth & a 2-yard touchdown run from QB Steve Bukich to close the scoring.  Dankworth finished with 88 yards passing with a touchdown while Owens rushed for 104 yards.  White threw for 191 yards with 2 touchdowns but 5 interceptions in the loss.  UCLA finished the season 9-2-1; ranked 15th nationally while the Beavers finished 2-10.  Oregon State would play for The Belt again in 1977.
