Coach Don Read’s Oregon Ducks had a Belt game in his final season as coach.  Oregon came into the game with a 3-5 record & on a 4-game losing streak against the 3rd ranked UCLA Bruins of coach Terry Donahue who stood 7-0-1.  UCLA rushed for 441 yards while holding the Ducks to –2 yards rushing & All-Pac 8 PK Frank Corral kicked 3 field goals including a school-record 55-yarder as the Bruins routed the Ducks 46-0 to retain The Belt.  UCLA's QB Jeff Dankworth opened the scoring with a 13-yard touchdown run before RB Wendell Tyler scored on a 1-yard touchdown run giving the Bruins a 14-0 1st quarter lead.  Tyler’s touchdown was set-up after UCLA's DT Manu Tuiasosopo recovered the fumble of Oregon's QB Jack Henderson at the Oregon 20-yard line.  In the 2nd quarter, Tyler scored his second touchdown of the game, this one finished a 12-play, 78-yard drive & came on a 2-yard run as the Bruins pushed the lead to 21-0.  UCLA's S Tom Murphy recovered a Henderson fumble which led to Corral’s 55-yard kick.  Corral’s 37-yard field goal closed the 1st half score with UCLA leading 27-0.  Bruins’ RB Jim Brown took over in the 3rd quarter & scored on a 1-yard run as well as a 69-yard run which made the score UCLA 41 Oregon 0.  Corral’s 49-yard field goal came just 0:47 into the final quarter & the Bruins recorded a safety when Oregon's C Fred Lackaff had to fall on a fumble in the Oregon end zone.  Dankworth finished with just 21 yards passing while Brown rushed for 100 yards with his 2 touchdowns.  Henderson threw for 90 yards in the loss.  UCLA finished the season 9-2-1; ranked 15th nationally while the Ducks finished 4-7.  Oregon would play for The Belt again in 1978.
