Having dispatched Belt holder UCLA, the top-ranked, 4-0 Ohio State Buckeyes of coach Woody Hayes settled into their Big Ten schedule as 2-time Belt champions.  Iowa had lost 10 straight games to Ohio State & coach Bob Commings’ Hawkeyes were 0-4.  The Buckeyes never let Iowa in the game rushing for 378 yards, scoring touchdowns on 7 of their 8 possessions, & extending their Iowa win streak to 11 with a 49-0 win.  Following an Iowa punt, Ohio State took their first possession 91 yards in 15 plays with RB Pete Johnson scoring on a 4-yard touchdown run.  The Buckeyes next drive went 59 yards in 9 plays with Johnson scoring his second touchdown of the game on another 4-yard run giving Ohio State a 14-0 lead with 10:25 left in the 2nd quarter.  Buckeyes' All-American CB Tim Fox returned the next Hawkeyes’ punt to the Iowa 38-yard line & 8 plays later, All-Big Ten QB Cornelius Greene hit TE Larry Kain for a 9-yard touchdown pass.  Ohio State's S Craig Cassady intercepted Iowa QB Tom McLaughlin at the Iowa 41-yard line before the offense took 6 plays to score with Johnson scoring his third touchdown of the day & 14th of the season, this one coming on a 3-yard run giving the Buckeyes a 28-0 halftime lead.  The Buckeyes opened the 3rd quarter with a 9-play, 61-yard scoring march with Greene carrying in on a 7-yard touchdown run with 10:18 left in the game & the Ohio State back-ups took over for most of the rest of the game.  Ohio State's back-up QB Rod Gerald scored twice in the 4th quarter on runs of 45 & 14 yards for the final margin of victory.  Greene finished his day completing all 8 of his passing attempts for 117 yards with a touchdown as well as rushing for 49 yards with a touchdown while Heisman Trophy winning, All-American RB Archie Griffin rushed for 120 yards.  McLaughlin threw for just 20 yards while being intercepted once in the loss.  Ohio State finished the season 11-1; Big Ten Champions & ranked 4th nationally while the Hawkeyes finished 3-8.  Iowa would play for The Belt again in 1981.
