Coach Lee Corso’s Indiana Hoosiers came to Columbus with a 2-5 record to face the top-ranked, 7-0 Ohio State Buckeyes of coach Woody Hayes. Coming off a 55-7 loss at Michigan, many believed Ohio State might score 100 points but Indiana kept the game close & threatened an upset in a 24-14 victory for the Buckeyes. Things appeared normal in the 1st half as the Buckeyes scored on their first 3 possessions. Ohio State's PK Tom Klaban hit a 43-yard field goal for the only points of the 1st quarter, All-Big Ten QB Cornelius Greene found TE Jimmy Moore for a 5-yard touchdown pass, & Greene carried in from 4 yards as the Buckeyes took a 17-0 halftime lead. The 3rd quarter belonged to the Hoosiers as RB Ric Enis scored on runs of 4 & 1 yard making the score 17-14 while giving Indiana hopes of a monumental upset over the top-ranked Buckeyes. The two touchdowns in the 3rd quarter by the Hoosiers were the first touchdowns that the Ohio State defense had allowed in a Big Ten game during the season. Ohio State finally settled in the 4th quarter & when RB Pete Johnson scored on a 1-yard touchdown run the Buckeyes had secured the 24-14 win. Greene threw for just 16 yards with his touchdown pass while completing 2 of his 4 pass attempts, Johnson finished with 150 yards rushing with his touchdown while Heisman Trophy winning, All-American RB Archie Griffin added 150 yards rushing. Enis finished with 148 yards rushing with his 2 scores in the loss. Indiana's QB Terry Jones threw for 59 yards with an interception in the loss. Ohio State finished the season 11-1; Big Ten Champions & ranked 4th nationally while the Hoosiers finished 2-8-1. Indiana would play for The Belt again in 1981.
