The 4th ranked, 2-0-1 Southern Cal Trojans of coach John McKay looked to rebound against 0-3 Oregon State Beavers coached by Dee Andros after the Trojans had tied Oklahoma 7-7 to previous week. Southern Cal's All-Pac 10 RB Anthony Davis scored 2 touchdowns while the Trojans' defense intercepted the Oregon State quarterbacks 6 times in 21-7 victory to retain The Belt on a day filled with rain & high winds. The Trojans scored in the 1st quarter when RB Rod McNeill carried in from 1 yard giving Southern Cal a 7-0 lead. The lead grew to 14-0 in the 2nd quarter when Southern Cal's CB Danny Reece intercepted Oregon State's QB Alvin White at the Oregon State 37-yard line before Davis scored on a 3-yard touchdown run. The Beavers avoided a turnover long enough to score in the 3rd quarter on a 4-yard touchdown pass from White to RB Ray Taroli. Davis’ second touchdown came in the 4th quarter on a 1-yard run after Southern Cal's LB Ray Rodriguez recovered a fumbled punt at the Oregon State 22-yard line to secure the rain-soaked win. Trojans’ QB Pat Haden finished with 94 yards passing while White threw for 101 yards with a touchdown but 5 interceptions in the loss. Southern Cal finished the season 9-2-1; Pac-8 Champions & ranked 8th nationally while the Beavers finished the season 2-9. Oregon State would play again for The Belt in 1977.
