Minnesota with first-year coach Cal Stoll stood at 1-5 as they came to Ann Arbor on one of the high points of the season; the Golden Gophers had defeated Iowa 43-14 the previous week.  The 5^th ranked, 6-0 Michigan Wolverines did not let the defense of The Belt stand in the way of the defense of the Little Brown Jug.  Wolverines' All-Big Ten RB Ed Shuttlesworth rushed for 4 touchdowns in the 1^st half while the Michigan defense made 4 interceptions of Minnesota's QB Bob Morgan, as Schembechler’s team rolled to a 42-0 victory.  Shuttlesworth scored on runs of 1 & 4 yards in the 1^st quarter to start the rout.  In the 2^nd quarter, Shuttlesworth again scored on runs of 4 & 1 yards as the Wolverines took a 28-0 halftime lead.  In the 3^rd quarter, Michigan’s All-Big Ten CB Dave Brown intercepted a pass from Morgan & returned it 68 yards for a touchdown giving the Wolverines a 35-0 lead.  Michigan's QB Dennis Franklin finished the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run in the 3^rd quarter.  Franklin finished with 94 yards passing while Shuttlesworth added 86 yards rushing to his 4 scores.  For the Golden Gophers, Morgan completed just 3 of 8 pass attempts for 23 yards with 4 interceptions while All-Big Ten RB John King rushed for 78 yards in the loss.  Michigan finished the season 10-1; Big Ten Co-Champs & ranked 6^th nationally while the Golden Gophers closed the season at 4-7.  Minnesota would fight for The Belt again in 1975.
