Iowa with a record of 2-6-1 & led by coach Frank Lauterbur, hosted their first Belt game against the 4^th ranked, 8-0 Michigan Wolverines of coach Bo Schembechler.  The Hawkeyes were unable to move the ball against the Wolverine defense that had allowed only 4.5 points per game.  Michigan's QB Dennis Franklin dominated the offensive side as he threw for 2 touchdowns & rushed for another.  The Wolverines dominated the game & score with a 31-0 win.  Michigan opened the scoring with a 5-yard touchdown run from RB Bob Thornbladh.  Late in the 1^st quarter, PK Mike Lantry's 30-yard field goal gave the Wolverines a 10-0 lead.  Just before halftime, Franklin connected on a 15-yard touchdown pass to TE Paul Seal giving Michigan a 17-0 lead at the intermission.  The 3^rd quarter also belonged to the Wolverines as Franklin scored on a 1-yard touchdown run & threw a 37-yard touchdown pass to WR Gil Chapman to finished the scoring.  Franklin threw for 107 yards with 2 touchdowns to go with his rushing touchdown.  Iowa's QB Butch Caldwell threw for 93 yards with an interception in the loss.  Michigan finished the season 10-1; Big Ten Co-Champs & ranked 6^th nationally while the Hawkeyes closed the season at 3-7-1.  Iowa would play again for The Belt in 1975.
